Apple is testing a new feature that could let iPhone users prove a photo really came from their deviceโs camera.
Two strings in the latest iOS 27 betaโโCameraAuthenticityProofโ and โAFInfoโโsuggest a cryptographic signature will be embedded in each shot. The signature would travel with the file, letting apps and websites verify the image was captured on an iPhone, not generated by AI or copied from elsewhere. Apple has a history of quietly adding anti-forgery tech; it already stamps raw files with unique identifiers and, in iOS 17, introduced โproof modeโ for journalists.
The move arrives as deepfakes and AI-generated images flood social feeds, eroding trust in visual evidence.
