Some black holes roaming the Universe today may actually be older than the Big Bang, according to a new cosmic model. Researchers suggest that these black holes could be remnants from a previous phase of the Universe that contracted before expanding again. This theory, known as the cosmic โ€œbounce,โ€ opens up new possibilities for understanding not just black holes but also the mysterious dark matter that makes up a significant portion of the cosmos.

The idea of a cosmic bounce challenges the traditional view of the Universe's beginning. The Big Bang theory posits that the Universe began from a singular point about 13.8 billion years ago. However, this new model proposes that the Universe underwent a prior phase of contraction, which could allow some black holes to survive this transition. If true, it would mean that these ancient black holes could serve as "cosmic fossils," providing insights into the early conditions of the Universe and the formation of large structures.
