The Toronto Blue Jays have been disappointing, but for different reasons than the New York Mets , Boston Red Sox , and some others in Major League Baseball.

Had the Blue Jays not been injured at this rate, I don't think it's egregious to say that they'd be one of the better teams in the American League, at the very least. We saw what the Blue Jays did a year ago, and one could argue that their roster is even better than it was last season when healthy.

For all those reasons and more, there's a good chance the Blue Jays will be buyers at this deadline, hoping to make some improvements on both sides of the baseball and get past these injuries. One Sports Illustrated writer recently predicted that to be the case, predicting them to trade for Freddy Peralta of the Mets.

“The Mets have had a dumpster fire of a season so far. They are another team that needs a serious turnaround. The Mets are 29-37 on the season so far. If the Mets don't make a significant change, they will be in danger of selling,” Patrick McAvoy of SI wrote .

Peralta is only a rental, which could scare the Blue Jays off. However, if Toronto believes it has a chance to win a World Series and is getting healthier toward August, making a move for arguably the best starter available outside Tarik Skubal could have some merit.
