BTS V Reveals Hearing Loss in Right Ear Amid World Tour

BTS member V, Kim Tae‑hyung, announced on August 12 during a Weverse livestream that he has been losing hearing in his right ear for the past two‑and‑a‑half years. He said the left ear is at a normal level of 100, while the right is only about 30. The singer revealed the issue first publicly, saying he initially tried to ignore it but later sought medical help. He is now on medication and visits the hospital regularly.

V blamed his hearing loss for worsening while he completed mandatory military service in South Korea. The group’s other members, including RM, finished their service in June 2023, and all seven members have been in the army at different times. He described the problem as a “matter of mental strength” at first, but has since taken steps to treat it. The band’s rigorous tour schedule and the physical demands of performing may have contributed to the condition.

During the same livestream, Jungkook disclosed that he has been managing a shin injury while on the ARIRANG world tour. He said there is inflammation and possible micro‑damage to the bone, and that he has had to sit through some shows to recover. BTS performed two nights at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium on August 10‑11 and will continue the North American leg in Arlington, Toronto and Chicago before heading to Los Angeles. The tour will then travel to Latin America, Asia and Australia, ending at the Philippine Sports Stadium on March 16, 2027.

BTS released their fifth album, ARIRANG, in March and have been praised for their continued commitment after a year‑long break for military service. The group recently declined to submit the album for the Grammys after the introduction of a Best Asian Pop Music category, saying they want music to be heard beyond regions or languages. Their fans, the ARMY, remain supportive as the band pushes forward with tours, new music and a dedication to staying healthy on the road.
