The Indiana Fever gritted out perhaps their hardest-fought win of the season so far against the hosting Washington Mystics on Monday night.

The basket that sealed it? A thrilling logo 3-pointer from superstar Caitlin Clark .

After the game, her Fever teammates mobbed Clark in celebration... which should, y'know, put a bit of a damper on the idea that there's some sort of simmering tension between Clark and her teammates.

That imagined, baseless discourse is part of many conspiratorial threads surrounding the Fever and Clark this season, some unnecessarily defensive of Clark and aggressive toward the Fever organization and some unnecessarily critical of Clark and speculative of the bond she has with her teammates and coaches.

Most all professional sports teams have moments of tension between players and coaches, players and players, you name it. The Fever are no different. However, moments like this put it all in perspective. These Fever players all seem pretty happy to be playing with Clark and each other; the speculative fan theories can't dispute real life. Perhaps they can exist in a nuanced reality that embraces the messiness of the human condition? Hot takes can't.

Clark can certainly chill out sometimes; it's a good area of improvement. However, it doesn't look like she's a locker room pariah who cant' get along with her teammates... far from it. Maybe, just maybe, she's a flawed human like all of us who is subject to some really unhelpful commentary by people trying to force a baseless narrative. It comes from her fans; it comes from her critics. Maybe it'd be better to let the athletes and coaches tell us what's going on instead of Monday morning quarterbacking from social media on what a context-free clip might mean.

You can feel how you wish about Clark; she's a major athlete. That's how it works. However, let's keep the discourse rooted in reality, on the actual basketball and what happens on the court. We'd all be better off... seriously.
