CalciMedica, Inc. (NASDAQ:CALC) shares rose 6.22% in pre-market trading on Tuesday despite the clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company reporting a wider-than-expected second-quarter loss, as investors focused on progress across its pulmonary hypertension programme and regulatory pipeline.
CalciMedica reported a quarterly loss of $0.45 per share, compared with the analyst estimate for a loss of $0.26 per share.
Net loss for the three months ended June 30, 2026 was $7.7 million, widening from $6.0 million in the same period last year.
Investor attention instead appeared to centre on CalciMedica's clinical development plans and recently completed financing.
The company secured a private placement of up to approximately $49 million, including $15 million in upfront gross proceeds, to help advance its pulmonary hypertension strategy.
"The recent financing supports a pulmonary hypertension strategy, including a Phase 1b proof-of-concept trial using Auxora and the continued development of CM5480 as an oral therapy for chronic use," said Rachel Leheny, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of CalciMedica.
The company expects Phase 1b proof-of-concept data for Auxora in pulmonary arterial hypertension in mid-2027. An investigational new drug submission for CM5480 is also anticipated around the same time.
These milestones give investors clearer upcoming clinical catalysts as CalciMedica expands its development efforts in pulmonary hypertension.
