Barcelona reportedly view Cesc Fabregas as the ideal successor to Hansi Flick as first-team coach at the club once the German coach decides to call it a day.
Flick signed a contract extension at the end of the season that runs until 2028 but the new deal does include the option for another year.
The 61-year-old has previously said that Barcelona will be his last job in football before he heads into retirement.
According to Catalunya Radio, Fabregas is currently “best placed” to take over from Flick after impressing in Serie A with Como .
Fabregas secured qualification to the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history this season and his exploits have not gone unnoticed back in Catalunya.
Barça president Joan Laporta and Deco both have a good relationship with Fabregas and have reportedly “already conveyed to him” that there could be a job for him coaching the club in the future.
Fabregas was quizzed on his future at the end of the season and said he was in no rush to leave but knows at some point the time may come to take the next step in his career.
“You mustn’t be in a hurry in your work, you’ve got to have patience and keep learning. When one day you feel ready, you might make the step up,” he said.
