Russian drones struck Ukrainian towns early Saturday, killing at least two people and wounding several others, including children in the city of Kryvyi Rih – the birthplace of President Volodymyr Zelensky. Officials said the strikes came just hours after a series of Russian attacks that killed at least 20 civilians on Friday, 16 of them in two successive blasts on a busy shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih.

The latest attacks are part of a broader Russian campaign to target Ukrainian infrastructure and morale. Kyiv’s defence ministry has said that Russian forces are increasingly using unmanned aircraft to hit civilian sites, a strategy that has intensified in recent weeks. Analysts point to a possible attempt to disrupt supply lines and sow fear among the civilian population as the war enters a new phase of intensified fighting.

In Zaporizhzhia, a drone hit a residential area, killing a man and wounding four others. In Kyiv, a warehouse caught fire after a drone strike, forcing emergency crews to rush to the scene. The city’s fire department reported that the blaze was contained within hours, but the damage to the building and nearby structures was significant. Local authorities in Kryvyi Rih confirmed that several children were among those wounded, though the exact number has not yet been released.

The Ukrainian government has called on the international community to increase support for air‑defence systems, arguing that the growing drone threat endangers civilians and critical infrastructure alike. Russian officials have denied responsibility for the recent attacks, claiming that any civilian casualties are the result of Ukrainian artillery fire. As the conflict continues, both sides are likely to keep up their use of drones, raising concerns about the protection of civilians in heavily populated areas.
