DMX is getting a street named after him in New York

A road near his childhood home will now be called ‘Earl DMX Simmons Way’

DMX is set to be honoured in his New York hometown, with a street being named after him.

The rapper, born Earl Simmons, was a major figure in the late ‘90s hip-hop world. His debut album ‘It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot’ (1998) saw him gain notoriety for his distinctive vocals, stripped back melodies and more intense feel than the mainstream rap scene at the time.

He died in April 2021 , aged 50, after suffering a heart attack , and shortly afterwards there were ideas put forward to do something to honour his legacy in his New York hometown.

DMX grew up in a public housing complex near the intersection of School Street and Brooke Street in Westchester County, called Calcagno Homes.

Now, that street will be renamed as the Earl DMX Simmons Way, in his memory.

The move was approved by the local Yonkers City Council last week (Wednesday May 27).
