Ether.fi Launches Tokenized Stocks, Portfolio Loans on Ethereum
Ether.fi is launching tokenized stocks and portfolio-backed loans on Ethereum, integrating with Aave. This expands DeFi beyond staking, blending traditional finance with crypto to simplify asset manaโฆ
Ether.fi, an Ethereumโbased staking platform, announced on Tuesday that it will add tokenized stocks and portfolioโbacked loans to its suite of services. The update comes alongside plans to launch fiat accounts and integrate borrowing through the Aave protocol. The move marks the companyโs push into crypto banking and expands its offerings beyond staking rewards.
The addition of tokenized stocks is part of a broader trend of bringing traditional financial products to the blockchain. Tokenized shares let users hold digital representations of equities, dividendโpaying stocks, and other securities without needing a brokerage account. By pairing these assets with portfolioโbacked loans, Ether.fi can offer borrowers collateral that reflects realโworld value, potentially lowering default risk and attracting more users who want to leverage their crypto holdings.
Ether.fi said the new features will launch on the Ethereum mainnet later this month, with Aaveโs lending market providing liquidity for the loans. The platform already serves around 200,000 stakers who earn rewards in ETH and other tokens. Early testers report that the loan-toโvalue ratios will mirror those of conventional finance, offering up to 50โฏ% borrowing against the value of tokenized stocks. Industry observers note that the partnership with Aave could accelerate the adoption of DeFi for everyday investors, while regulators will keep a close eye on how tokenized equities are issued and traded.
Looking ahead, Ether.fi plans to roll out fiatโonโramps and support for additional asset classes such as realโestate tokens and commodities. The company says it will also work with regulators to ensure compliance with securities laws. If the platform succeeds, it could blur the line between traditional banking and decentralized finance, making it easier for users to move between fiat, crypto, and tokenized assets in a single ecosystem.
