European stocks are poised to extend their gains on Wednesday following a significant drop in oil prices, which has alleviated concerns about inflation and rising interest rates. Brent crude futures fell below $79 a barrel, marking the third consecutive session of losses and a weekly decline exceeding 10 percent. This downturn comes amid increasing optimism regarding a potential interim agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The easing of oil prices is linked to media reports suggesting a shift in Iran's stance. Tehran is reportedly open to allowing European nations to assist in clearing mines from the vital waterway, which is crucial for global oil transport. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei indicated that discussions with Oman about securing safe shipping routes are progressing positively. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is reportedly working to mitigate a renewed conflict with Houthi militants through diplomatic channels.

This decline in oil prices has also led to a reduction in global bond yields. The yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury bonds fell to 4.6187 percent, down from a high of 4.747 percent last week. In the U.S. market, stocks rose for a fourth straight session, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite climbing 2.6 percent. Positive earnings reports, including strong results from data analytics company Palantir, have bolstered investor confidence.

As European shares hit record highs on Tuesday, with the pan-European STOXX 600 climbing 0.7 percent, the broader market sentiment remains optimistic. Corporate earnings are strong, and the decline in oil prices is expected to support continued growth. Investors will be watching closely for any developments in U.S.-Iran negotiations, as a resolution could further impact market dynamics and inflation expectations in the coming weeks.
