Android Authority advises against purchasing Galaxy S24 and Z Flip4 models

Even as a Samsung fan, I wouldnโ€™t buy these 5 models right now

Samsungโ€™s newest flagship phones have been called โ€œpoor valueโ€ by Android Authority, a review that lists five models the tech site says a fan of the brand should avoid right now. The article names the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold4, and Galaxy Z Flip4 as the lineup to skip. It argues that each of the five phones carries a high price tag but offers only incremental improvements over previous releases or competitors.

The criticism comes at a time when the smartphone market is more crowded than ever. Big players such as Google, OnePlus, and Xiaomi are pushing highโ€‘spec devices at lower prices. Samsung, once the clear leader in the premium segment, has had to keep its flagship models expensive to maintain brand prestige. In 2023, the company introduced the Galaxy S23 series and the Fold4/Flip4, but many reviewers noted that the hardware upgrades were modest. Consumers now expect big leaps in camera performance, battery life, or new software features, and the price hikes feel unjustified.

Android Authority points out several specific issues. The S24 and S24+ use the same processor as the S23, but their camera software lacks the advanced AI sceneโ€‘recognition that the Pixel 8 Pro offers. The S24 Ultra, while sporting a 200โ€‘megapixel sensor, is priced 30โ€ฏ% higher than the Pixel 8 Pro and does not match its battery life. The Fold4 and Flip4 are heavy and still carry a 120โ€‘Hz display, but their folding hinges add weight and cost. Across all five models, reviewers say the software updates lag behind rivals and the build quality feels less premium than expected.

If Samsung does not address these concerns, the company risks losing market share to rivals that deliver more bang for the buck. Android Authority suggests that Samsung could lower prices or introduce a midโ€‘tier model that offers a better balance of cost and performance. Meanwhile, consumers are likely to look at the upcoming Galaxy S25 series or the next generation of foldables for a clearer return on investment. Samsungโ€™s next move will be watched closely by analysts, as the brand must decide whether to keep pricing high or compete on features to stay relevant in a priceโ€‘sensitive market.
