Google’s Scam Detection technology can warn you of potential scams during phone calls. This feature has been available on Pixel phones for a while now, but it’s since arrived on the Samsung Galaxy S26 series . Now, we’ve uncovered evidence that this tech is likely coming to another Android phone maker.

You’re reading an Authority Insights story. Authority Insights brings you all the latest exclusive reports, app teardowns, leaks, and in-depth tech coverage from the Android Authority team that you won’t find anywhere else.

We conducted a teardown of the Phone by Google app (234.0.9) and found evidence that vivo could be next to support Scam Detection functionality. Check out our screenshots below. The term “Sharpie” is an internal codename for the Scam Detection feature.

Vivo’s name joins Samsung and Google’s Pixel line here. Combined with the Sharpie mention, it certainly looks like vivo is next in line to get Scam Detection capabilities.

There’s no word on which vivo devices will support this functionality, but it’s possible that the company could debut this option on the rumored vivo X500 series. I’m also hoping that this would come to the vivo X300 series thereafter.

There’s also no word if this feature will be available in vivo’s phone app or the Phone by Google app. After all, the Galaxy S26 phones offer Scam Detection functionality in Samsung’s phone app. However, vivo uses its own dialer app in China but relies on Google’s app in global markets. It therefore stands to reason that this option will be available in the Google dialer.

Nevertheless, we’re glad Scam Detection might be coming to more Android phone brands. This feature uses on-device AI when you’re on a call to monitor for patterns associated with scammers. For example, if a caller asks you to provide payment via gift cards for a supposed service, Scam Detection will display a pop-up warning along with audio and haptic alerts. The feature doesn’t apply to calls with contacts, though.
