Google could soon let you choose how forgetful Gboard’s clipboard is

Google seems to be working on a new Gboard feature that could make life easier for anyone who has ever used the keyboard’s clipboard. While digging through the latest version of the Gboard app (v18.0.3 beta), we spotted a new clipboard setting that Google is working on.

Currently, the clipboard in Gboard automatically deletes copied content after one hour, unless you pin it. While this ensures that the clipboard remains tidy and organized, it can also be a hassle if you forget to pin something important.

Google is now working on a feature that will let users choose how long copied information stays in Gboard’s clipboard. In the app’s clipboard settings, users will find a new slider that lets them customize how long Gboard keeps text in the clipboard. The slider will let users adjust the time from one hour to 24 hours.

However, it’s not a completely granular slider. Instead, it will let users change the clipboard time in the following steps: one hour, two hours, three hours, six hours, 12 hours, 18 hours, and 24 hours.

This could prove to be a very useful feature for users who often find themselves in situations where they want their copied text to stay in the clipboard for longer than an hour without necessarily keeping it pinned forever.

Though the feature isn’t available right now, Google is clearly working on it, and it looks close to being ready. Hopefully, Google will start rolling it out soon, and we’ll finally be able to adjust the Gboard clipboard’s memory duration to our requirements.
