Google Messages finally appears to be expanding a major usability refresh to more users, bringing its redesigned floating context menu and selective text copying to (slightly) wider availability.

Reddit user seeareeff reports that they could finally see the new floating context menu when long-pressing a message bubble. Rather than dumping action icons into the top action bar (which forced awkward hand re-gripping on larger phones), the vertical floating menu appears right below/above the text. Essential actions like Reply, Copy, Edit, Star, and Delete are neatly grouped in a clean list format that makes one-handed interaction far less frustrating.

Alongside the floating context menu, the user also got the ability to selectively copy text from within a message. Instead of copying an entire long-form paragraph, address, or multi-line message into a separate note app just to isolate a verification code or other selective detail, users who have the selective text selection ability can simply drag the text selection handles to highlight and copy the exact snippet they need, saving them from quite some friction.

The redesigned long-press menu and selective text selection features are rolling out via a server-side flag on recent builds of Google Messages in the beta channel. Other Reddit users note that they still donโ€™t have either feature, while others mention theyโ€™ve had the features on and off recently. If you havenโ€™t received these new features on your device yet, force-stopping the app and clearing its cache might help trigger the feature, though we hope this broader rollout reaches more users over the coming days.
