Banking apps can be suspicious of anything that strays from the standard Android experience, but GrapheneOS clearly believes Revolut is taking that distrust way too far. The privacy-focused Android project claims some users are once again having trouble logging into the Revolut app, accusing the fintech company of deliberately trying to shut them out.

In a thread on X , GrapheneOS said Revolut is blaming the restriction on security concerns, but argued that the real issue is that theyโ€™re enforcing licensing on Google Play . It also questioned how strict Revolutโ€™s security standards can really be when the app still supports Android 9, which launched back in 2018. It went further, describing Revolut as โ€œincredibly negligent when it comes to security.โ€

This isnโ€™t the first round of the dispute. GrapheneOS says Revolut attempted to block its operating system in January 2025, before the project found a way around the checks. The app continued working for users, but GrapheneOS now says reports of login problems are returning. People who are already signed in appear less likely to be affected.

GrapheneOS claims Revolut is specifically looking for signs that a phone is running its software, rather than simply applying the same security checks to every device. The project says Revolut could instead use Androidโ€™s hardware attestation tools to verify GrapheneOS phones, and that it has sent the company guidance on how to do so for years.

There may still be a workaround for affected users. GrapheneOS suggests signing into a spare Google account and installing Revolut through its sandboxed Play Store, though it warns that this isnโ€™t a dependable long-term solution if Revolut keeps changing its checks.

GrapheneOS isnโ€™t hiding its frustration, laying bare one side of what appears to be a testy dispute. Revolut had no comment on the allegations when contacted, but made clear that the app fully supports both Android and iOS.
