Grindr CEO George Arison announced that the company's investment in artificial intelligence is paying off, as the LGBTQ-focused dating platform reported a revenue increase of 33% in the second quarter. The company generated $138 million in revenue, prompting it to raise its financial outlook for 2026, now projecting annual revenue of about $540 million. This shift reflects a broader trend in the tech industry, where AI is increasingly seen as a tool for enhancing business efficiency.

Arison believes that AI will not only improve user experience but also revolutionize Grindr's software development process. The company has implemented AI tools to boost engineering productivity, claiming a 2.5 times increase in output from July 2025 to April 2026 despite maintaining a consistent team size. This efficiency means that Grindr can release new products faster without significantly increasing its workforce or costs. Arison highlighted that before the adoption of generative AI, achieving similar output would have required hiring an additional 200 engineers at an estimated annual cost of $60 million.

The company has been investing heavily in AI technologies, with plans to spend $6 million on related resources this year. Arison expressed confidence in this expenditure, citing a tenfold return on productivity. Despite concerns that AI might replace jobs, he noted that Grindr has not eliminated any positions but has instead focused on enhancing its engineers' capabilities using AI-powered coding assistants.

Grindr is also testing a new premium tier, the AI-powered Edge companion, in markets like New York, where subscriptions can reach $350 per month. Initial expectations suggested that only the highest-paying subscribers would upgrade, but early data indicates a more diverse customer base is showing interest. This shift could signify a growing appetite for premium AI features beyond the company's traditional subscriber demographic, potentially reshaping Grindr's revenue model in the competitive dating app landscape.
