‘Groceries are too high!’ Thomas Massie says PRIME Act could lower beef and pork costs, but not overnight. Will it work?

For millions of Americans, the weekly grocery trip has become an exercise in sticker shock.

Beef prices have climbed sharply in recent years, forcing many families to swap steaks for cheaper cuts, or abandon beef altogether. Now Rep. Thomas Massie, R-KY., says one of the bills he's spent the most time championing could help bring those prices back down.

"Groceries are too high!" Massie wrote on X (1) on Aug. 4, responding to right-wing commentator Matt Walsh. "The bill I've spent the most effort on since I've been in office is the PRIME Act… to lower beef & pork prices while giving farmers more opportunity."
