The team behind Halloween: The Game has quietly removed a controversial sex minigame ahead of the survival horror’s full launch.

Based on the hit horror series, Halloween: The Game is set to launch this week (September 8) for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. “It’s Halloween night, 1978, the unsuspecting families of the quiet suburban town of Haddonfield are making holiday preparations, and evil has made its way home,” reads an official description of the game. “The Boogeyman is out. Team up in a 1v4 asymmetrical horror showdown on everyone’s favourite night of the year. Choose to save the quiet town of Haddonfield from bloodshed as a Hero of Haddonfield or stalk and terrorise the residents as Michael Myers.”

Anyone who pre-ordered the deluxe edition of Halloween: The Game has been allowed to play it early though, and they quickly discovered a sex minigame that allowed two players to sneak away to a closet and indulge in some NSFW activities. One of the characters, Lynda, even got temporary skill advantages afterwards. However it seems the team behind Halloween: The Game have quietly removed the sex minigame before launch.

The move has angered some fans. “Why did they remove it?! Me and my homeboy just wanna have sex in a closet and we can’t? Please add back the sex minigame,” wrote one Reddit user. Others on Steam are flooding the comments below the recent hotfix patch notes with demands to bring back sex to Halloween: The Game .

“Players may have noticed that our latest hotfix removed the Two-Person Power-Up minigame. This was due to an unintended issue that allowed end game reinforcement characters to engage with the minigame, which was a major oversight on our part,” said developers IllFonic in a statement shared with IGN . It confirms the fan-theory that the sex minigame was removed because characters such as Michael Myers’ therapist Dr. Loomis (who is in his fifties during the events of the game and is based on deceased actor Donald Pleasence) can take part alongside the 17-year-old Lynda.

“We have more content and minigames coming in the near future but current focus is our attention on immediate game needs. Keep an eye on our socials for updates as they become available,” IllFonic added.

Last month it was confirmed that Halloween: The Game wouldn’t be released in New Zealand or Australia due to the presence of “a controlled substance” .
