Donald Trump's administration, in collaboration with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., launched the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement over two years ago. This initiative aimed to reduce chronic diseases, reform the food system, and eliminate harmful chemicals. With the 2024 election approaching, supporters are assessing how well these promises have been upheld.

The MAHA platform has seen some notable achievements, particularly with new dietary guidelines. These guidelines encourage higher protein intake and suggest increased consumption of saturated fats, aligning with MAHA's vision. However, critics point out that the administration has not effectively addressed issues related to toxic chemicals in food, air, and water. Many supporters feel the government's actions have not met the promises made under the MAHA agenda.

Kelly Ryerson, an activist with the MAHA movement, expressed disappointment in the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) performance. She highlighted a lack of progress in protecting drinking water from "forever chemicals" and criticized the approval of harmful pesticides. Critics argue that the Trump administration has weakened existing protections rather than enhancing them, which contradicts the core goals of MAHA.

One specific concern is glyphosate, the active ingredient in the herbicide Roundup. Many in the MAHA community sought stricter regulations on glyphosate due to links to cancer. Instead, the Trump administration has supported the pesticide's manufacturer in legal battles and encouraged its domestic production. This has left many MAHA advocates feeling disillusioned, raising questions about the effectiveness of the movement in achieving its health-focused goals.
