Liverpool supporters have spent much of the past season debating the impact of Florian Wirtz. Arriving at Anfield amid enormous expectations and a transfer fee reported to be in excess of £100 million, the Germany international was viewed as one of the cornerstones of Liverpool’s future.
Wirtz experienced a campaign that mixed flashes of brilliance with periods of frustration, leading to scrutiny from supporters and pundits alike. Despite those challenges, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp remains convinced the midfielder possesses all the qualities required to become one of the club’s defining players.
Klopp has offered a strong endorsement of his fellow German, insisting that Liverpool supporters have already seen evidence of the talent that made Wirtz one of Europe’s most sought-after young players.

When Wirtz completed his move to Liverpool in the summer of 2025, excitement levels were understandably high. The attacking midfielder arrived with a reputation built on outstanding performances in the Bundesliga and was expected to transform Liverpool’s creativity.
However, adapting to the Premier League is rarely straightforward, even for elite talents.
Liverpool endured an inconsistent campaign, and Wirtz found himself under the microscope throughout much of the season. Injuries disrupted his rhythm at key moments, while questions were occasionally raised about whether he was producing enough goals and assists to justify his status.
Across all competitions, Wirtz made 49 appearances during the 2025/26 season. He contributed seven goals and ten assists, although his Premier League return stood at five goals and four assists.
