The Morton High School girls soccer team continued building its storybook season Tuesday in the IHSA playoffs.
The Potters ripped Waterloo, 5-2, in the Class 2A Chatham Glenwood supersectional to earn a trip to the state finals.
Morton will play Wheaton St. Francis (12-4) at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the IHSA Class 2A state semifinals at North Central College in Naperville.
Morton, 25-1-1, built a 2-0 lead at halftime on goals by sophomore midfielder Madi Greiner and junior forward Claire Ceresa, the latter a slick header on the move off a crossing feed.
Waterloo struck back for a tie in the first 12 minutes of the second half.
But the Potters locked up their first trip to the state finals in school history with three unanswered goals in the second half.
The game-winner came from Greiner with 26:16 left on a left-footed shot on the fly that curved across the pitch and banked in off the right post.
The Potters tacked on two more goals in the final 12:21, from Izzy Ripka and Ceresa, to put it out of reach.
