Honor unveils Robot Phone with 200MP camera, now available for preorder in China

Honor has officially launched its much-anticipated Robot Phone, now available for preorder exclusively in China. This innovative device features a unique automated pop-up camera gimbal, designed to enhance photography and videography experiences. The gimbal, which is made from titanium, can rotate a full 360 degrees and supports various cinematic movement modes, making it easier for users to capture challenging shots that traditional smartphones cannot achieve.

The introduction of the Robot Phone comes at a time when smartphone manufacturers are increasingly focusing on advanced camera technology and AI integration. The device includes an AI algorithm for subject tracking, allowing the camera to automatically pan and tilt to follow subjects. Users can also control the camera using gesture commands, making the shooting process more interactive. Honor’s collaboration with Arri, a leading manufacturer of cinema cameras, enhances the phone's capabilities with features like AI-assisted noise reduction and a wider dynamic range for video.

The 6.3-inch OLED display offers adaptive refresh rates and a peak brightness of 6,800 nits. Preorder options include two configurations: one with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage priced around $1,480, and another with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage available for approximately $2,075.

Looking ahead, Honor plans to open the platform to third-party developers, which could lead to new experiences utilizing the phone's multimodal capabilities.
