India vs Bangladesh ODI, T20I series: BCCI to approach Indian government before taking final call on participation

BCCI is set to ask the Indian government for clearance before deciding whether India will play the upcoming ODI and T20I series in Bangladesh.

The move follows weeks of tension between the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Bangladesh Cricket Board over security concerns and player safety. India’s last tour of Bangladesh in 2022 was shortened after multiple delays and last-minute changes to fixtures. This time, New Delhi’s stance on visa rules and travel advisories could directly affect the tour’s viability.

Sources say BCCI officials plan to meet with the Ministry of External Affairs within days to assess the ground situation. Bangladesh’s cricket authorities have already confirmed venues and broadcast arrangements, banking on India’s participation to draw crowds and revenue. India’s absence would leave a multi-million dollar gap in ticket sales and sponsorship deals.

If the government flags risks, BCCI may pull the plug or relocate the series to a neutral venue. India’s participation is crucial for Bangladesh to maintain its ICC ranking points and hosting credibility. The decision will also set a precedent for future bilateral tours amid rising geopolitical tensions in South Asia.
