The Portland Fire entered Saturday night on a four-game losing streak. With the game on the line and a chance to end the streak, they turned to a former Iowa star to get the job done.

Megan Gustafson has found her game in Portland this season. After bouncing around teams over the first seven years of her career, Gustafson is playing her best basketball for the expansion Fire. She's entered the starting lineup and has given her team some big performances. None bigger than the one she gave on Saturday.

Gustafson was clutch down the stretch of the Fire's 84-83 win over the Dallas Wings . With one minute left and the Fire down four, she got the assist on a Bridget Carleton three-pointer. After a defensive stop, she went down and scored at the rim with 22.5 seconds to play to give her team the lead. The Wings would respond before Carla Leite tied the game again. A few seconds later, Emily Engstler won the game at the free-throw line.

All in all, Gustafson finished the night with 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists. It was another strong game in a breakout season for the former Hawk.

On the season, she's now averaging a career-high 11.5 points per game, while pitching in nearly four boards a night as well. She's scored in double figures in nine of Portland's last ten games, quickly becoming a fan-favorite on one of the newest teams in the league.

Gustafson is now sitting on 899 career WNBA points, with 173 of them coming this season. She's on pace to smash her previous career-best for points in a season, which was 269 in 2023 with Phoenix. At her current pace, it won't be long until she hits the 1,000 career point mark.

It's been a windy road in the WNBA for Gustafson, but she's finally found a place to thrive in 2026. When Portland has needed her most this season, she's delivered. Gustafson and the Fire will take the court next on Monday night, when they take on the Minnesota Lynx at 7 p.m. CST.
