Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said on Sunday that President Trump’s response to reports of poor conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln made him angry. “The president’s reaction pisses me off,” Moore told reporters in Annapolis. He added that the response should upset everyone.

The Abraham Lincoln is one of the Navy’s largest aircraft carriers, home to more than 5,000 sailors. In recent weeks, crew members have spoken out about cramped living spaces, shortages of basic supplies and safety concerns. The ship was already in the news after a fire on the flight deck in May that injured two crewmen. The reports suggest morale is low and that the ship’s maintenance schedule may be rushed to keep the carrier at sea.

Trump replied on Twitter, calling the reports “unverified” and “overblown.” He said the Navy was “doing a great job” and that the crew were “tough and resilient.” Moore criticized the president, saying the response was dismissive and ignored the sailors’ grievances. Other lawmakers, including Rep. John Smith of Maryland, echoed the criticism and called for a full investigation into the carrier’s conditions.

The incident may lead to a congressional hearing on Navy living standards and oversight. Defense officials said they would review policies and conduct an internal audit of the Abraham Lincoln’s conditions. Moore said Maryland would support efforts to improve sailor welfare and urged the federal government to ensure that service members are not left in unsafe or unsanitary environments. The outcome could shape future Navy policy and the broader debate over military readiness.
