NBA Finals: Mitchell Robinson called for flagrant after drilling Victor Wembanyama in the neck early in Game 4

Mitchell Robinson was hit with a flagrant foul on Wednesday night after he sent Victor Wembanyama flying early in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.

The New York Knicks big man, after Wembanyama appeared to get the best of him on the other end of the floor, drilled the San Antonio Spurs star hard with a forearm to his neck as they were running back down the court. Wembanyama went flying down to the ground at Madison Square Garden, and officials quickly called a foul on Robinson.

After a review, Robinson was hit with a flagrant I. Play then continued on normally.

But right before the call, Wembanyama was spotted clearly taunting Robinson after sneaking a layup past him. He started clapping quickly as he hit the floor after taking the shot to the face, too.

While they were in separate games, and the NBA admitted it missed the call, the flagrant came after Wembanyama delivered a similar shot to Jalen Brunson ’s head in Game 3 of the series on Monday night.

The NBA said after the game that this should have been called in the moment, but it was missed. It opted not to upgrade it to a flagrant foul after a review, too.

The Spurs dominated in the first quarter of Game 4 on Wednesday night. They jumped out to a 41-22 lead while shooting 65% from the field in the first 12 minutes of the contest. Wembanyama had a team-high 13 points, too.
