O-T Fagbenle joins Artists First for creative leadership

O-T Fagbenle has joined Artists First for management, the talent agency confirmed Monday.

The deal marks another step in Fagbenle’s move beyond acting into creative leadership. Known for Luke Bankole in Hulu’s *The Handmaid’s Tale* and roles in Peacock’s *The Miniature Wife*, he’s recently co-created *Maxxxine*, the neon-soaked 1980s horror satire starring Elizabeth Banks. That project caught the attention of Artists First, a mid-sized agency that blends packaging, financing, and management under one roof. The firm has been expanding its creative roster, signing writers and directors behind buzzy streaming hits like *The Bear* and *Shōgun*.

The hire signals Fagbenle’s push to control more of his own projects. He’s developing a limited series at FX based on *The Ministry of Utmost Happiness*, Arundhati Roy’s novel about modern India, and co-wrote the upcoming Apple TV+ series *Blackstar*, a sci-fi mystery set in 1970s New York. Artists First has already packaged *Blackstar*; adding Fagbenle as a client gives them a direct creative stake in the project’s future.

The shift reflects a broader trend: actors with writing credits are increasingly taking management positions to shape slates, not just land roles. Fagbenle’s deal bundles packaging, financing, and career strategy—exactly the kind of 360-degree support mid-tier agencies now offer to keep talent from defecting to bigger firms or studios. With *Maxxxine* wrapping production and *Blackstar* in pre-production, the next 12 months will test whether Fagbenle can balance acting, directing, and creative control without spreading himself too thin.
