Orion Energy Systems reported a 32% increase in first-quarter revenue, reaching $25.7 million, fueled by rising demand for LED lighting and electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions. The company's financial turnaround included a net income of $2 million, a significant improvement from a $1.2 million loss in the same quarter last year. This performance highlights Orion's resilience in a competitive energy market.
The growth comes as Orion capitalizes on a surge in large-project activity within its LED lighting segment, which saw revenue rise 37% to $17.7 million. The EV charging business also showed strong results, with a 48% increase, bringing in $4 million. The company is also making strides in its maintenance services, which generated $4.1 million, a 2% increase from the previous year. Management points to a multimillion-dollar engagement with a leading hyperscale data center operator as a pivotal growth opportunity for its LED lighting business.
In addition to revenue growth, Orion's gross margin expanded significantly, rising 450 basis points to 34.6%. Adjusted EBITDA remained positive for the seventh consecutive quarter, increasing to $2.5 million. The company's operating cash flow turned positive at $1.4 million, and its liquidity improved to $18.1 million, up from $9.8 million a year earlier. These financial metrics suggest that Orion's strategic initiatives to enhance profitability are beginning to yield results.
Looking ahead, Orion reaffirmed its fiscal 2027 revenue guidance of $95 million to $97 million and anticipates continued positive adjusted EBITDA for the full year. The company's expansion into the hyperscale data center market could represent a key long-term growth avenue if it successfully converts initial engagements into ongoing projects. However, management also acknowledged the challenges posed by current market uncertainties, hinting at the need for continued vigilance and adaptability in their operations.
