ASUS unveils Googlebook CX9406 with Aluminium OS and Glowbar design

ASUS has unveiled images of its upcoming Googlebook CX9406, providing a clearer picture of Google’s new laptop initiative. The images were obtained by 9to5Google from an iF Design listing that has since been taken down. The CX9406 is expected to debut alongside other Googlebooks in the fall, and the leaked visuals suggest it will differ significantly from traditional Chromebooks.

The timing of this reveal aligns with a growing trend in the tech industry, as Google aims to expand its hardware offerings. This new line of laptops, referred to as Googlebooks, will run on an Android-based operating system called Aluminium OS. The shift from Chrome OS to this new platform indicates a strategic move by Google to diversify its product lineup and potentially compete more directly with Windows and macOS devices.

The images showcase a sleek, dark-gray design, highlighted by a distinctive white Glowbar above the ASUS logo. This illuminated feature is poised to become a hallmark of Googlebooks, likely signaling notifications to users. Inside, the laptop sports a Google “G” key, replacing the typical Windows Start button, and includes a launcher symbol on the Caps Lock key. The device appears equipped with multiple ports, including USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, and a headphone jack, although some of these details remain unclear due to the design's curvature.

ASUS is one of five partners collaborating with Google on this launch, joining Acer, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. With leaks from two manufacturers surfacing in quick succession, the anticipation for Google’s Android-powered laptops is mounting. As the launch date approaches, the tech community is eager to see how these devices will perform and what innovations they will bring to the market.
