What was once viewed as one of the more impressive prospect pools in Major League Baseball, the Philadelphia Phillies ' prospects just haven't been playing at the level that everybody has been hoping for over the past few years.

Whether that be Andrew Painter struggling at the big league level, Aidan Miller dealing with what seems to be a major back issue, and other unfortunate realities, the Phillies need to be hopeful that a team is still willing to take a chance on some of their high-upside guys in the minor leagues.

There's an obvious need for starting pitching now, but two teams have to make a trade for it to work out.

The Phillies definitely need to add on that front, but according to the latest from The Athletic, the Phillies might not have the depth required in the prospect system to make a big trade for an elite starter.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if they look for some swingman depth, but I don’t know that they’ll be prioritizing starting pitching — or that they have the depth required to trade for a strong starting pitcher,” Charlotte Varnes wrote .

If there's one thing Dave Dombrowski has been very good with in the past, it's figuring out ways to improve his roster.

I've been a bit disappointed with some of what he's done on the offensive side of things, but pitching-wise, he typically finds a way to get the job done. At the same time, I agree here that adding a starter might not be as easy as it sounds.
