Google has just announced the Pixel 11 phones , bringing the Tensor G6 chip , a variety of nifty camera features, and seven years of updates. What happens if your phone breaks or has a battery issue during those seven years, though? Thankfully, the Pixel maker has some good news for consumers.
Google confirmed during the Pixel 11 lineโs Indian launch that the phones will receive seven years of support for spare parts. This support applies to all markets where the phone is sold, including the US.
This isnโt the first time Google has promised seven years of spare part support , either. 2023โs Pixel 8 series was the first Pixel phone generation to get this lengthy commitment, in line with its seven-year update policy. Nevertheless, weโre still glad to see Google maintaining this commitment with the Pixel 11 range.
A seven-year spare part commitment is arguably just as important as seven years of updates, if not more important. This is particularly critical for the phoneโs battery, as Pixel phones are rated for 1,000 charging cycles before the battery effectively loses 20% capacity. That means you could see a significant drop in battery life after roughly three years. So having access to spare batteries is key if you want to actually use your phone for seven years.
This spare part commitment is also welcome in the event of accidental damage several years down the line, allowing you to buy a new screen or rear cover in the event of a bad drop. Either way, hereโs hoping other brands with long-term update policies step up their spare part commitments.
