Roblox will soon add offline and browser-based play modes

The browser-based play mode will initially only be available on Chrome.

Roblox is making it easier to access games on its platform. At the annual Roblox Developers Conference, the company has announced that it will launch browser-based gaming by the end of 2026. Players will be able to join a Roblox game from its Experience Details Page on a browser without having to download or install anything first. If they see link to it on search, YouTube, X or their email, they can simply click on it and start playing instantly. The capability will initially be exclusive to Chrome users, but the company says more browsers will support it in the future.

In mid-2027, Roblox is also launching offline play. Creators will be able to enable offline solo play, so that users can keep playing even in places with spotty internet connection. The company says early access for the feature is coming soon, so some people will be able to try it before next year. In addition, the company will soon allow creators to make their games available as standalone apps across mobile, PC and consoles as part of its "Play Roblox Everywhere" efforts.

Roblox has also announced that it's expanding its engine capabilities and adding new UI features so that it can support 2D and puzzle games, aside from the 3D games it's known for. It's expanding support for more turn-based, asynchronous multiplayer games, as well, so players can expect to see more types of Roblox games soon.
