Samsung to introduce satellite connectivity hub in One UI 9.5 update
Samsung's upcoming One UI 9.5 update is expected to include a "Satellite connectivity hub," allowing users to send messages and contact emergency services via satellite in areas without mobile data oโฆ
Samsung is working on a new โSatellite connectivity hubโ for its upcoming One UI 9.5 update, according to leaked screenshots from an internal build shared by developer Fahad Ali Javed on social media platform X. This feature aims to allow users to send messages and contact emergency services via satellite, especially in areas lacking mobile data and Wi-Fi. The functionality appears to be based on a similar โSatellite SOSโ feature introduced by Google on its Pixel 9 series.
The push for this update comes shortly after Samsung released the One UI 9 update for its Galaxy devices. The tech giant is looking to enhance user experience with features that improve connectivity options. The satellite feature is particularly relevant as it addresses a growing demand for reliable communication methods in remote areas or during emergencies when traditional networks fail. This is in line with broader industry trends, where smartphone manufacturers are increasingly integrating satellite technology into their devices.
In addition to the satellite hub, One UI 9.5 may also introduce a โDebugging onlyโ option within USB settings. This new feature would provide developers with a streamlined way to access Android Debug Bridge (ADB) and other tools without cluttering the user interface. Currently, users with USB debugging enabled do not receive notifications about its active status when connected to a PC, which can pose security risks. The anticipated โDebugging onlyโ mode could alleviate this concern by simplifying the enabling and disabling process.
While these features are still in the internal testing phase, there is cautious optimism among users that they will make it to the final release of One UI 9.5. If successful, the update could significantly enhance the functionality of Galaxy devices, granting users essential tools for both emergency communications and a more secure development environment.
