Teen fires on school, kills seven in Thailand

At least seven people have been killed and 23 injured after a 14-year-old boy opened fire at a home and his school on the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand's capital.

The gunman, a student at Debsirin School in Nonthaburi, killed his grandparents and five teachers before taking his own life, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said. The boy still had more than 30 bullets left when he turned the gun on himself. Nine of those injured remain in critical condition. The attack began just after 10 a.m. local time.

Forensic officers found the shooting was carefully aimed, with several bullets hitting vital spots. The prime minister called the attack "well prepared" with "clear steps and clear goals." Police have not named the shooter or disclosed a motive, but Anutin suggested stress over schoolwork may have played a role. Investigators are still searching the gunman's home, where they found computer equipment and boxes.

The incident is the second school shooting in Thailand this year and has intensified calls for tighter gun laws. Debsirin School, one of the country's most prestigious, was founded in 1885 and has educated diplomats and prime ministers. A seventh-grade student told the BBC she was standing in front of her teacher when she was shot. "She was talking to me when he showed up and shot her," the girl said. "I had to climb over the school fence to escape." Her mother said the girl feared she would die. "She said, 'I thought I'd never see you again.'"

Classes were suspended at nearby schools, and authorities warned people to stay away from the area. The school later appealed for blood donations on social media. The prime minister called the tragedy avoidable. "This shouldn't have happened," he said.
