U.S. stocks fell on Thursday as Treasury yields rose, marking a potential end to the Dow Jones Industrial Average's record-breaking win streak. The Dow slid by 0.6%, while the S&P 500 dipped 0.2% and the Nasdaq Composite declined by 0.1%. This decline comes as investors navigate a mix of earnings reports, geopolitical developments in the Strait of Hormuz, and fresh labor market data.

The decline in stock prices coincides with rising concerns over artificial intelligence (AI) capital requirements and monetization. High valuations for tech companies have led to sharp reactions in the market, particularly affecting AI-focused firms like Sandisk and Western Digital. Earlier in the day, SpaceX shares rose but later lost momentum as a lockup period expired, allowing insiders to sell their shares.

Global oil prices surged to $81 per barrel amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty. Iran announced a potential agreement with Oman for a temporary shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, though the deal's finalization depends on the actions of unnamed third parties. Rising oil prices have also contributed to the increase in Treasury yields, with the 30-year yield climbing to 5.21% and the 10-year yield reaching 4.67%.

In terms of employment, a report from Challenger, Gray & Christmas revealed that July layoffs fell to their lowest level in two years, while first-time jobless claims rose slightly to 199,000 for the week ending August 1. These labor market indicators set the stage for the upcoming July employment report, which could further influence market sentiment in the days ahead. As investors keep a close watch on these economic signals, the interplay between stock performance, oil prices, and labor data will continue to shape market dynamics.
