A third Inbetweeners film has been officially confirmed by Netflix following recent reports of a reboot, with production now underway.
Last month, it emerged that all four stars – namely Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, Blake Harrison and James Buckley – were attached to return as main characters Will, Simon, Neil and Jay in a third film, which came after rights holders Banijay UK struck a deal with the show’s creators.
Netflix has now officially announced the movie in a teaser trailer, which sees the four characters get into Simon’s famous yellow Fiat, as he struggles to get the ignition going. After managing to eventually start the vehicle, the four drive off, with the number “3” written in dirt on the back window.
Jay is then heard declaring a new variation of his famous catchphrase: “Netflix wankers.”
“Ooh, Netflix friends. THE INBETWEENERS 3. Now filming,” the streamer captioned the post.
Show creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris will be back to write and direct the film, and said in a statement: “It’s been super-fun hanging out with our friends again, and we’re going to work hard every week to ensure there are no problemos making this new film for humans.”
The original show ran between 2008 and 2010, before spawning films in 2011 and 2014. Focusing on the four awkward schoolfriends, the first movie saw the group head on holiday after finishing school, while the second sees them journey through Australia.
The third film was recently reported to be stalled due to an issue between Buckley and Emily Atack , who played Charlotte Hinchcliffe in the series, though it is unclear whether this has been resolved.
