Apple adds Siri voice customization in iOS 27 beta 5

iOS 27 beta 5 now lets users tweak Siri’s voice pace and expressivity for every American voice and all existing British accents.

The change marks Apple’s latest push to make Siri feel more personal. Last year, Apple added two fresh American voices and introduced sliders for “Pace” (how fast Siri talks) and “Expressivity” (how emotional the delivery sounds). Those sliders were limited to the new voices at first. Beta 5 removes that restriction, treating customization as a feature for all supported accents, not just the newest ones.

A screenshot shared by 9to5Mac shows the two sliders now appear under every American voice and every British accent option in Settings > Siri & Search > Siri Voice. Users can drag the pace slider from slow to fast and the expressivity slider from flat to animated. Apple has not confirmed when these sliders will reach the main iOS 27 release or whether they will expand to other languages.

The move matters because Siri’s tone still feels robotic to many users, especially compared with rivals that offer more vocal variety. Apple’s own research suggests voice assistants with adjustable expressiveness get higher satisfaction scores. By opening the sliders to more voices, Apple is quietly testing whether personalization can offset Siri’s long-standing reputation for flat, monotone responses. If the experiment succeeds, expect the feature to graduate from beta to a standard part of iOS 27 later this year.
