The Writers Lab launches a Los Angeles intensive for its Fall 2026 cohort. This expansion increases access to Hollywood opportunities for women and non-binary writers over 40.
The Writers Lab announced today that it will launch a Los Angelesโbased intensive and revealed the writers selected for its Fallโฏ2026 cohorts. The program, which has run a NewโฏYork City intensive since 2020, will now offer a second location, giving more screenwriters a chance to develop projects in the heart of the film industry.
The Lab is the only scriptโincubation program in Hollywood dedicated to women and nonโbinary writers over 40. It was created in response to the persistent lack of opportunities for older female voices in the writersโ room. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, along with highโprofile supporters MerylโฏStreep and NicoleโฏKidman, launched the program to help these writers refine scripts, secure mentorship, and build industry contacts. Past cohorts have produced several projects that moved into production, proving the modelโs effectiveness.
The LosโฏAngeles cohort will run in parallel with the NewโฏYork cohort from September to Decemberโฏ2026. Eight writers were chosen after a competitive application process that evaluated originality, depth of storytelling, and potential for impact. Participants will work with experienced mentors, attend weekly workshops, and receive feedback from producers and directors.
