Dina Thorslund reclaimed the undisputed super-featherweight boxing title on Saturday night, ending Cherneka Johnson’s year-long reign with a unanimous decision in Copenhagen.

Thorslund, 32, fought only her third bout in three years after a long hiatus that included motherhood. Johnson, 28, had held the WBA, WBC and IBF belts since beating Katie Taylor’s protégé, Tamara Defensor, in 2023. The Dane entered the fight as a late replacement and used crisp movement, sharp jabs and body shots to outpoint her Australian rival over ten rounds.

The judges scored the fight 97-93, 97-93, 96-94 in Thorslund’s favour. Johnson landed 228 punches to Thorslund’s 264, but the Dane’s accuracy—55% landed versus 38%—made the difference. “I knew I had to come in and box smart,” Thorslund said. “I didn’t want to give her anything easy.” The win avenges her only professional defeat, a split decision to Jessica McCaskill in 2021.

Thorslund now holds world titles at two weights and is set to fight unified lightweight champion Katie Taylor in a true undisputed clash. Johnson, fighting at home, promised to regroup. “I gave it my best,” she said. “Next time I’ll come back stronger.” The result leaves Taylor as the only remaining undisputed champion and sets up the biggest fight in women’s boxing this year.
