Youri Tielemans has issued an apology to Aston Villa fans after comments he made suggesting that Manchester United, his new club, is a "bigger" club than Villa. The Belgian midfielder joined United this summer for £35 million after they activated a release clause in his contract, leaving behind a three-year stint at Villa Park.

Tielemans' remarks came during a pre-season tour with United, where he praised Villa for helping him regain his form. However, he added, “But there are clubs above Villa, and Manchester United is one of them.” His comments sparked backlash from some Villa supporters, prompting him to clarify his intentions on Instagram. He expressed his respect for Villa and gratitude for his time there, stating, "I must however admit my mistake and apologise for my choice of words."

The 29-year-old midfielder, who had a challenging previous season due to calf and ankle injuries, made only 35 appearances for Villa, marking his lowest total since moving to England. Despite this, he played a key role in helping Belgium reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup this summer. Tielemans described his transfer to United as the culmination of years of dedication and called it "incredible" to join such a storied club.

As the Premier League season approaches, both clubs are gearing up for their final pre-season matches. United will face AC Milan, while Villa is set to take on Borussia Monchengladbach. Tielemans’ comments and subsequent apology highlight the intense emotions surrounding player transfers and the loyalty fans expect from their athletes.
