Trump calls for a Bombardier plane ban, drawing pushback from a GOP senator

President Donald Trump asserted Monday that the Canadian aerospace company Bombardier should no longer be allowed to sell its planes in the U.S., opening a new front in his trade war with Canada .

The move drew an objection hours later from Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., whose state hosts Bombardier’s U.S. headquarters.

It’s the latest example of pushback from Republican senators against Trump’s Canada trade policy, which has sparked back-and-forth tariffs months from the midterm elections.

“NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES!” Trump wrote in a Monday post on Truth Social . “Their products aren’t good enough!”

Trump further charged that the company depends on “American Buyers, American Companies, American Airports, and American Service — All while Canada blocks our GREAT American Banks, and Companies, throughout the U.S.A.”

“If they want our Market,” Trump added, “they must build here, and stop treating America like a ‘piggybank.’”

The president’s missive drew a response from Bombardier, which defended its investments in the U.S., and from Moran, who in a post on X noted that the company is a major employer in his state.

“The presence of Bombardier in Wichita supports a local workforce of more than a thousand employees, who contribute their talent and expertise to our nation’s defense and aerospace capabilities,” Moran wrote.
