After all the talking , speculation and controversy , UFC’s latest chapter as a U.S. government contractor plays out in the nation’s capital (pending a last ditch lawsuit or lightning storm ).
Headlining UFC Freedom 250 is Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje for the undisputed UFC Lightweight title. Topuria holds the belt, which he won from Charles Oliveira last year ( re-live that here ), despite a short divorce-related hiatus . Gaethje won the interim title by bashing Paddy Pimblett to open up the Paramount+ era.
There’s been a lot of tension between these two as we build up to the weirdest UFC card in history.
The co-main is for the interim UFC Heavyweight title. Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane do the honors, with “Poatan” looking to become the first fighter to win belts in three divisions . Gane will hope to spoil that and set up a rematch with Tom Aspinall ( if Eddie Hearn lets him ).
Rounding out this special seven fight card is Sean O’Malley vs. Aiemann Zahabi , Derrick Lewis vs. Josh Hokit , Michael Chandler vs. Maurcio Ruffy , Bo Nickal vs. Kyle Daukaus and Diego Lopes vs. Steve Garcia .
It’s all different this weekend. We’re fighting on Sunday, for one. There’s also no undercard here.
