Ukraine denies drone strike near Bulgarian gas pipeline

Ukraine denied targeting Bulgaria on Saturday after a small drone crashed near a major gas pipeline in the country. The incident happened in a rural field near the Romanian border, close to where Bulgaria meets the Black Sea. Bulgarian officials said the drone appeared to be a model used by Ukraine’s military, raising concerns about a possible strike on infrastructure. Energy transit is critical in the region, and the pipeline links Bulgaria to gas supplies from Azerbaijan and Turkey.

The drone war between Russia and Ukraine has been spreading across borders in recent months. Ukrainian forces have used long-range drones to hit targets inside Russia, while Russian forces have launched strikes on Ukrainian energy sites and nearby countries. Bulgaria is a key transit route for Russian gas to Europe, and any disruption raises alarms in Brussels and NATO capitals.
