USS Abraham Lincoln returns to US after Thailand port call

The USS Abraham Lincoln left the Thai coast on Sunday after a five‑day port visit in Pattaya, heading back to the United States. The aircraft carrier, under the command of Captain Dan Keeler, had been on an extended deployment in the Middle East before docking at the Thai port for resupply and crew rest. The departure marks the end of a month‑long deployment that saw the Lincoln operating in the Gulf of Aden and the Persian Gulf.

The visit is part of the U.S. Navy’s broader Indo‑Pacific strategy, which seeks to maintain a forward presence amid rising tensions in the region. Thailand, a key U.S. partner in Southeast Asia, welcomed the ship’s arrival, and Thai officials praised the crew’s professionalism. The stop also allowed the carrier to conduct joint drills with the Royal Thai Navy, strengthening interoperability and signaling U.S. commitment to regional security.

During its Middle East deployment, the Lincoln flew more than 300 sorties, supported by a 5,000‑person crew and 2,000 aviation specialists. The ship’s arrival in Thailand provided a chance to exchange supplies, repair minor equipment, and give the crew a break before the next leg. Captain Keeler thanked the Thai people for their “incredible hospitality,” and the U.S. Navy reiterated its appreciation for the country’s support of U.S. naval operations.

After arriving in the United States, the Lincoln will head to a naval base—likely San Diego or Norfolk—for a scheduled maintenance period. The ship’s return allows the Navy to refit and prepare for future deployments, potentially back to the Pacific or other theaters. The port visit highlighted the importance of diplomatic goodwill and logistical support in sustaining a global naval presence, a factor that will remain crucial as U.S. forces navigate complex security dynamics in the Indo‑Pacific.
