Google kicked off the month with a fresh Google Home update that brought along new features for the smart home setup. iOS users did end up experiencing a hiccup when a bug automatically turned on their smart lights , but Google quickly fixed the issue . Sadly, thereโs now a significantly widespread outage affecting Google Home and Nest users worldwide, affecting displays, speakers, and automations.
According to a plethora of user reports on Reddit , the Google Home outage appears to affect a broad range of devices, including Nest Hubs, Google Home Mini/Nest Mini speakers, and third-party Google Assistant-enabled smart displays. Affected smart displays are either stuck on a blank white screen or showing an endless spinning loading wheel whenever a voice prompt or physical interaction is initiated.
The issue isnโt limited to displays, either. Multiple users report that basic routines and scheduled automations have completely stalled, with Google Assistant/Gemini either responding with significant delays or claiming devices are unreachable.
The sudden failure has left several smart home owners wondering whether their hardware has permanently malfunctioned. Standard troubleshooting steps, such as power cycling or factory resets, do not appear to resolve the problem.
Given the uniform symptoms across different generations of Nest and Google Home devices, this suggests a server-side disruption rather than hardware failure or a faulty software/firmware update. Google doesnโt maintain a status page to acknowledge issues affecting Google Home devices, nor has it addressed them on its social accounts, such as X .
If your Google Home or Nest device is currently unresponsive, frozen, or failing to trigger automations, donโt bother with a factory reset at the moment, until Google fixes the underlying cloud infrastructure outage. For now, you just have to wait it out.
Weโve reached out to Google to learn more about this Google Home outage. We will update this story as soon as Google acknowledges the issue or services begin returning to normal.
