A woman was stabbed and beaten by neighbors after she accidentally locked them out of their duplex on Saturday night in the city of Miami. Police arrived within minutes after neighbors called 911. The victim, 36โ€‘yearโ€‘old Maria Hennings, was taken to a hospital with two stab woundsโ€”one to her chest and one to her abdomen. The injuries caused a collapsed lung and a lacerated liver. She is in critical condition but is breathing with mechanical support.

The incident follows a growing number of violent neighbor disputes in the area. Local officials say that accidental lockouts have become more common as duplexes and townhomes increase. When residents are locked out, they sometimes try to force their way in, and tensions can rise quickly. In recent months, the police department has reported more incidents of property damage and physical altercations. This case is the most severe yet, raising concerns about how quickly a seemingly minor mistake can turn deadly.

Hennings was treated at Mercy Hospitalโ€™s trauma unit. Doctors say the collapsed lung and liver damage are lifeโ€‘threatening but treatable. The police have detained a suspect, a 29โ€‘yearโ€‘old neighbor named Luis Ramirez. He was taken into custody on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Neighbors describe Ramirez as a โ€œquietโ€ resident who had a history of petty disputes with Hennings. The police are still gathering evidence, including security footage from the duplexโ€™s front gate.

The investigation will determine whether Ramirez faces felony assault charges. The case will be heard in the Miami-Dade County court system. Henningsโ€™ family has urged the community to be more mindful of lockout protocols. City officials announced a new program to install keyโ€‘less entry systems and community mediation services. The incident has sparked a debate about safety in multiโ€‘unit housing and the need for better conflict resolution tools.
