Brennan, Hossler share Wyndham lead after 64s

Brennan and Hossler lead the Wyndham Championship at 16-under after shooting 64s on day three. A two-stroke lead is tenuous in a crowded field, with players like Homa and Reavie just two back.

Brennan and Hossler share the lead after day three of the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The pair, both chasing their first PGA Tour title, carded six-under 64s to move to 16-under par, two strokes clear of the chasing pack. Brennan, 27, from Australia, birdied his final three holes to keep pace with Hossler, 26, from Texas. It was a day of birdie fests at the Donald Ross-designed course, where the greens stayed receptive and the wind stayed light. Both players had been steady throughout the week, avoiding big numbers and capitalizing on the easier scoring opportunities.

Sedgefield is known for its old-school toughness, but this year’s edition has played softer. The club is hosting its first event since 2019 after pandemic cancellations, and the course was trimmed slightly to encourage more aggressive play. That showed on day three, with 36 players under par and 11 inside the top 10. The leaderboard is crowded enough that a late surge from anyone lurking could still swing the trophy.

The final round tees off Thursday with a 7:10 a.m. start, and the weather is set fair. A two-stroke cushion is fragile in golf, especially at a course where the greens can turn on a dime. If either Brennan or Hossler cracks under pressure, expect a scramble from players like Max Homa or Chez Reavie, both lurking at 14-under. Either man could claim their first win or extend a drought that’s lasted too long. For the rest, it’s about salvaging pride—and maybe a FedEx Cup points boost heading into the playoffs.
