Just after officially launching the new Pixel devices yesterday , Google is pushing out a set of new icons to its system apps. One of those is the Pixel Weather app, which is not only getting a slightly updated icon, but also a few new features that we’ve discovered and will discuss below.

You’re reading an Authority Insights story. Authority Insights brings you all the latest exclusive reports, app teardowns, leaks, and in-depth tech coverage from the Android Authority team that you won’t find anywhere else.

Let’s talk about the updated Pixel Weather icon first. While the new icon looks fairly identical to the existing one, there are a few minor, subtle changes, other than the switch to a white background, that might go unnoticed unless you look closely. The new icon gets a slightly wider contrast, with the center of the sun now glowing brighter. There’s a subtle red tone added to the bottom of the sun, while the cloud over it now also has a gradient.

Next, we talk about the changes that are much easier to ignore. Google is renaming its AI Weather Report, which gives you an AI-generated summary of the weather conditions at your location. The setting is now called Weather Brief. That new name has somewhat of a Samsung ring to it, but it should still work the same as it previously did. Additionally, right under the location on the weather screen, you now see the time when the weather was last updated.

Along with these changes, Pixel Weather may add a new label to notify you when it is set as a screensaver and the phone is being charged in Extreme Charging Mode . Google added the Extreme Charging Mode to the Pixel 11 series. While it doesn’t make the phones charge any faster (in terms of peak speeds) than the previous models, it ensures that all the power from a charger is focused on getting your phone charged first. That way, the Pixel 11 could effectively get a quicker battery boost, even though we have yet to test that and quantify the findings.

We aren’t sure how this label could appear, but we have the following strings that inform us of the text:
