Zelenskyy proposes new measures to US to end Ukraine-Russia conflict

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Tuesday that Ukraine has submitted new proposals to the United States aimed at bringing an end to its ongoing conflict with Russia. This announcement comes in the context of shifting diplomatic dynamics, as both Ukraine and Russia indicate that US negotiators may soon visit their countries.

Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of US support, particularly in enhancing Ukraine’s air defense systems and increasing pressure on Moscow to prepare for peace rather than further escalation. However, he did not disclose specific details about the proposals submitted to the US. The war has continued since Russia’s invasion in 2022, and diplomatic efforts have been largely stalled, especially following increased tensions in the region, including the US and Israel’s military actions against Iran.

In his remarks, Zelenskyy also expressed concern over Russia's upcoming parliamentary elections, suggesting they could serve as a cover for a new wave of military mobilization. He warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin may use the elections as a pretext to draft hundreds of thousands of additional soldiers by the end of the year. In a separate development, US President Donald Trump announced that Russia has released former US Marine Robert Gilman, who had been detained for four years. Trump stated that Gilman was freed on humanitarian grounds, without any conditions or reciprocal actions from the US. Gilman is anticipated to receive medical treatment upon his return, highlighting the complex relationship between the US and Russia amid the broader context of the Ukrainian conflict.
